Let’s face it, both our names start with the same first letter, have the same number of i’s and end with s. It doesn’t just end there, there’s plenty more..
- They love their food
- They love their comforts
- They look forward to and actually plan many meals a day
- They are hairy folk
- Given the appropriate terrain (anything not having glass or objects that burn/pierce flesh) they wouldn’t need shoes
- They have their own games that sometimes don’t make sense to others
- They love their parties
- They need an excuse to have a celebration
- Their parties have many freeloaders
- Food plays a huge role in parties
- They love a good smoke after a nice meal
- They think a good nap will cure most troubles
- They take their time in doing things
- They are meticulous about their property
- They have large families
- Their family trees are large, complicated and intersect with others’ family trees
- They know their family trees by heart
- They are generous in their own way
- They are natural story tellers
- Their stories don’t just have a beginning, a middle and an end but sub-plots, characters, background stories for characters and related stories
- It is hard to tell how much of their story is fictional
Which one were you thinking of when reading the list above? Hyderabadis? Hobbits? The resemblance is uncanny isn’t it? I am convinced that J. R. R. Tolkien was thinking of us when he was writing about hobbits.
